Emmanuel Mudiay to Work Out for Lakers, Knicks, and 76ers
By William Lee
According to Adam Zagoria of SNY.TV, Emmanuel Mudiay is expected to work out with three of the top-four teams in the lottery, as per Larry Brown. The only exception being the Minnesota Timberwolves, who holds the first overall pick of the 2015 NBA draft. It looks like Mudiay is attempting to change the minds of the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, and Philadelphia 76ers, trying move up in the draft board.
From SNY.tv
"A second source told SNY.tv that the order of the workouts will go Lakers first, Knicks second and then the Sixers last. Mudiay has been working out in New York, including at House of Sports in Ardsley to prepare for NBA workouts."
Larry Brown feels that Mudiay would not have a problem fitting in the the Knicks’ triangle system.
"“I don’t think Emmanuel’s gonna have any problem at all,” “I don’t think anybody who’s had the success that Phil Jackson has had couldn’t figure that one out.”“Phil Jackson’s smart enough and Derek’s smart enough,” “The great thing about the triangle, it has great spacing…And he’s always tailor made it to fit the personnel he has.”“I think he’d be a great fit with Phil,” “I think he’d be lucky to be around Derek Fisher, who’s a quality guy.”"
Brown also believes that that D’AngelO Russell is not a pure point guard the way Mudiay is.
"“Emmanuel is a point guard, I don’t think D’Angelo Russell is a point guard,” “But I think D’Angelo Russell is a great player. He can pass the hell out of the ball, he can shoot it with range. I don’t think he’ll ever be the defender that Emmanuel is and I don’t think he’ll ever run a team the way Emmanuel does but he also doesn’t need to do that the way he plays.”"

Mudiay is a fairly unknown commodity, playing overseas in China in favor of going to Brown’s SMU Mustangs this year. We know Brown strongly endorses Mudiay and that Mudiay said it “definitely be a blessing” to be drafted by the Knicks. Otherwise there is not much to go by, other than watching YouTube videos of Mudiay dominating in High School and playing inferior talent in China, it is difficult to evaluate him.
It would be an interesting scenario if Mudiay’s work out, turn out so impressive that the Lakers decide to select him with the second overall pick. With the 76ers drafting Joel Embiid last year and Nerlens Noel the year prior, Philadelphia seems to be all set on the center position. Which would allow New York to get the leftover crumbs of the Timberwolves’ choosing, either Karl-Anthony Towns or Jahlil Okafor. If this wishful scenario played out, it would be a great redemption story for New York after dropping out of second to fourth on Lottery night.
