New York Knicks fans were in for a Halloween scare during halftime of the team’s matchup against the Cavaliers on Tuesday. The TNT crew discussed what they saw on the court in the first half, which turned into Charles Barkley’s rant about Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert.

New York has been hunting for a star since Leon Rose took over as team president in 2020. KAT is represented by CAA, where Rose came from, and he’s a player who’s been linked to the Knicks.

Towns has been in Minnesota since 2015 but has only three first-round playoff exits to show for it. The Timberwolves traded for Gobert in the 2022 offseason to bolster their roster, but it was a failed experiment in 2022-23.

Minnesota is 1-2 to start the season with losses to Toronto and Atlanta, and Barkley is already tired of watching the Wolves. The Hall of Famer called for New York to trade for KAT to not only put an end to the Towns-Gobert lineups but to push New York into contention.

How do New York fans feel about the idea of Karl-Anthony Towns suiting up for the Knicks? Well, not good.

Indeed, watching KAT and Rudy Gobert play together in Minnesota hasn’t been enjoyable, but that doesn’t mean New York needs to swoop in and fix that. Towns is one of the players that the front office is reportedly monitoring, which is understandable given the Wolves’ current situation.

He’s an All-Star who could be traded, and given New York’s position, they should do their due diligence on Towns if he were made available. However, between his injury history and current contract, he isn’t the star New York needs to cash its assets in for.
