No, Julius Randle didn’t request a trade, but his son wanted him to last season. As a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the New York Knicks All-Star talked about Kyden’s passion for basketball.

Kyden’s been a regular face at the Garden since Randle signed with the team in 2019. He surprised his dad with the Most Improved Player award in 2021, was the team’s biggest supporter that year in the playoffs, and is such a fierce competitor that he was distraught after Julius performed poorly in the 2023 All-Star Three-Point Contest.

Talking with Fallon, Randle said dealing with the New York media is nothing compared to riding home with his oldest son after a loss. He shared a hilarious story about how after one of the Knicks’ win streaks was snapped last season, Kyden told him that he should “ask for a trade.”

Julius Randle’s son wanted him to request trade after Knicks’ win streak ended

Julius Randle said his son told him that after New York won eight or nine straight games, which happened twice in 2022-23. The team won eight consecutive games in December and nine straight from late February to early March.

It’s good that Randle didn’t take his son’s advice so that Kyden, his younger brother, and his mom could watch New York make history in the playoffs with its first series win in a decade. As unfortunate as it was that Randle was dealing with two different ankle sprains in the postseason, the win is still a memory that he and his family will look back on years after he retires. The atmosphere at the Garden was unmatched.

Hopefully, the Knicks will be able to recreate a similar scenario in 2024, but this time, with a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. It’s a long 82-game regular season, but stay patient, Kyden. This season is shaping up to be one of the best ones yet.
