5 Knicks who will fight to make a name for themselves in training camp
2: Isaiah Roby
Isaiah Roby made a cool $400,000 when the Knicks signed him to a two-year, non-guaranteed deal on the final day of the 2022-23 regular season. He wasn’t eligible to suit up for New York because he was on an NBA roster (San Antonio) past the March 1 deadline, so Roby didn’t wear a Knicks jersey until Summer League.
Roby caught the attention of Knicks fans after the team traded Obi Toppin, and HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported New York planned to run the 25-year-old as the backup four. While he did well in Las Vegas, he didn’t impress.
Summer League was Roby’s first game back after rehabbing from an ankle sprain, but his past stops with the Thunder and Spurs weren’t encouraging.
Because the Knicks haven’t signed a backup four, the plan is to roll with Josh Hart. Maybe Roby can sway the coaching staff to give him some minutes based on how he performs at training camp, but New York could also waive him before the start of the season, so the pressure is on for the forward.
