When does NBA Training Camp start? Dates Knicks fans need to know
Over three months have passed since the New York Knicks played their last basketball game of the 2022-23 season, meaning soon enough, the NBA will be back.
Like every other team, the Knicks will start the new season with training camp. Last year, fans were disappointed to learn Tom Thibodeau was planning to proceed with Evan Fournier as the starter over Quentin Grimes, who was injured then. Thibodeau didn’t take long to reverse course and remove Fournier from the rotation.
Training camp this year will give new faces, such as Dylan Windler, an opportunity to prove themselves to the coaching staff. It’ll also be a time for players to continue to build chemistry on the court, especially with new free-agency addition Donte DiVincenzo.
When does 2023-24 NBA Training Camp start?
On Sept. 27, training camps for the teams playing in preseason games outside of New America will open. The day before, players for said teams will be allowed to report.
Veteran players for teams not participating in preseason games will be allowed to report on Oct. 2, and training camps will open on Oct. 3, two days before preseason action begins. On Oct. 5 and 7, the Mavericks and Timberwolves will participate in the NBA Abu Dhabi Games.
The Knicks will play four preseason games, starting on Oct. 9 and ending on Oct. 20.
When do rosters for the 2023-24 season have to be set?
Preseason will end on Oct. 20, and on Oct. 23, by 5 p.m. ET, all 30 teams will have set their rosters for opening night.
When does the 2023-24 regular season begin?
The regular season will begin on Oct. 24 with a doubleheader on TNT. The visiting Lakers will take on the defending champion Nuggets at 7:30 p.m. ET, and at 10 p.m. ET, the Suns and Warriors will tip off in San Francisco.
The Knicks’ first regular season game will be on Oct. 25 against the Celtics at Madison Square Garden.
