1: Knicks vs. Celtics, Oct. 25 on ESPN

Knicks fans have been speculating for weeks about who New York will play on Opening Night, and that question has been answered. The 2023-24 Knicks season will start in New York against the new-look Boston roster.

The NBA jumped at the opportunity to make Kristaps Porzingis’ debut not only against one of the Celtics’ division rivals but against the team that drafted him. Well, that is if he plays. Porzingis has plantar fasciitis in his right foot but is expected to be ready for the start of training camp. The keyword is expected.

The Knicks stole two massive games against the Celtics toward the end of the 2022-23 season, and it’d be monumental if New York could start 2023-24 on a similar note.

No NBA team should be judged too harshly at the start of a new season, but the matchup will also be Donte DiVincenzo’s debut as part of the Knicks’ second unit. He will get a good taste of the New York-Boston rivalry early on.

Opening Night is still over two months away, but the Oct. 25 tip-off couldn’t come soon enough.
