Knicks News: Jalen Brunson and RJ Barrett shine, James Harden-Sixers drama
The New York Knicks were well represented on Sunday in exhibition play leading up to the start of the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Jalen Brunson guided Team USA to its third straight exhibition win, and RJ Barrett shined for Canada in an overtime win.
Brunson scored a team-high 22 points, but more impressively, he was a perfect 9-of-9 from the floor in the United States’ 98-88 win over Spain. The US cruised to a victory over Slovenia on Saturday, 92-62. Next up for Team USA is a contest against Greece in Abu Dhabi on Aug. 18.
On Sunday, Barrett was Canada’s star in the team’s 113-112 overtime victory over Germany. He dropped 31 points, including the game-winner, and shot a near-perfect 13-of-14 from the field.
Canada will head to Spain to face Spain on Aug. 17 and the Dominican Republic on Aug. 18 before heading to the World Cup.
In other news, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Saturday that the Sixers were no longer engaged in trade talks for James Harden. Philadelphia plans to have Harden at training camp, although the guard is still opposed to staying with the Sixers. Harden’s relationship with Daryl Morey isn’t what it once was.
