The New York Knicks will soon enter a 2023-24 season with high hopes after finishing last season as the No. 5 seed in the East. Once training camp concludes, the Knicks will play four preseason games before the start of the regular season.

New York doesn’t have a rookie making their debut after going without a pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, but preseason will give fans the first look at free agency signing Donte DiVincenzo. It’ll be exciting to see DiVincenzo back on the same team as Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart for the first time since their Villanova days.

The Knicks will play a division rival twice, an Eastern Conference rival, and a Western Conference opponent in the preseason.

New York Knicks 2023 preseason games

  • October 9 vs. Boston Celtics at 7:30 p.m. ET
  • October 14 vs. Minnesota Timberwolves at 7:30 p.m. ET
  • October 17 at Boston Celtics at 7:30 p.m. ET
  • October 18 vs. Washington Wizards at 7:30 p.m. ET

It’d be fitting for Kristaps Porzingis to make his Celtics debut against the Knicks on October 9 (if he plays), but Boston will have its first preseason game the day before against Philadelphia. Regardless, seeing New York go up against a new-look Boston roster will still be entertaining. The 2023-24 season will be the first time in 10 years that Marcus Smart isn’t on the Celtics’ roster.

It’s become a preseason tradition for New York to go up against Washington, who will be a completely different team than they were last season. Jordan Poole could be in the discussion for Most Improved Player at the end of 2023-24.

The Knicks will also get a taste of the Timberwolves in the preseason. Anthony Edwards signed a five-year, $260 million extension this offseason and is primed for a massive 2023-24.

Although preseason games don’t matter, the contests are particularly beneficial for young players fighting for rotation minutes, such as Miles McBride. Knicks fans are eager to see how this year’s team will do after exceeding expectations last year, and it’ll all start with preseason.
