3. Brooklyn Nets

If the NBA wanted to play it safe in finding the right matchup for New York, the Brooklyn Nets may be the way to go. The Nets are a young rising team in the NBA and the Knicks will be working to try to hold them off in the Eastern Conference standings. As New York looks to make the jump to the elite tier in the conference, Brooklyn, in a lot of ways, will be trying to be the team that the Knicks were last season.

The New York rivalry is also something that can’t be overlooked. From a macro perspective, the limited travel for this matchup also makes sense for both teams. It’s something you can’t overlook either as the league tries to lessen the travel burden on teams.

The only real question I have about this potential matchup is whether the NBA believes that the Nets have enough star power to warrant a spot in the Christmas Day slate. Does the NBA believe that Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson are an intriguing enough duo to deserve a spot that only a handful of NBA teams are given? I’m not so sure. But Nets-Knicks on Christmas Day would be intriguing and entertaining if it did come to fruition.
