3 Players who might not stay on Knicks’ roster for entire 2023-24 season
1: Evan Fournier
If Evan Fournier is still on New York’s roster entering the 2023-24 season, he will only show up to games so he won’t get fined. He aired his frustrations in a recent interview with French outlet L’Equipe, saying he doesn’t think he’ll be able to take another year of not playing.
Fournier was pleading for the Knicks to trade him, but trying to do so hasn’t been easy. The 30-year-old has one more guaranteed year left on the contract that he signed with New York in 2021. It helps that Fournier’s officially on an expiring contract, but what doesn’t help is that he’ll be making $18.9 million next season.
According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks still aren’t willing to attach draft compensation to Fournier in a trade. There’s a chance he’ll still be on New York’s roster entering 2023-24, but it’s almost impossible to envision him staying with the Knicks past the trade deadline in February.
At this point, Knicks fans and Fournier are getting antsy. Begley mentioned that the Spurs have shown interest in Fournier. San Antonio would be a good landing spot for Fournier, mainly because he’d get to not only receive minutes again but also be a mentor for Victor Wembanyama. Fournier said in the interview with L’Equipe that playing for Gregg Popovich would be a “pleasure” and an “honor.”
Hopefully, Evan Fournier will have the Goku moment he’s been envisioning with a new team sometime soon.
