Knicks News: James Dolan stands out in Hornets ownership vote, two-way situation
New York Knicks James Dolan was in the news on Sunday and the reason why wasn’t surprising in the least. The league’s board of governors voted 29-1 to approve the sale of the Hornets. Guess who was the lone opposing vote?
Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin lead the group that bought the organization, and Bleacher Report’s Julia Stumbaugh speculated that Dolan dissented because of Schnall’s financial history. That ultimately didn’t matter because the sale was completed, and according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, it will be made official in the next week or two.
After signing Jaylen Martin and Nathan Wright to two-way contracts this offseason, the Knicks filled the third and final spot by re-signing 2022 draft pick Trevor Keels to a two-way.
New York extended a qualifying offer to Keels and Duane Washington Jr. at the beginning of the offseason. The Athletic’s Fred Katz pointed out that the Knicks can’t rescind their offer to Washington, although the team has the maximum number of two-way spots filled. If Washington accepted the qualifying offer, the Knicks would be forced to waive one of the current players on a two-way contract.
