Not every Knicks fan wants to see Julius Randle in a New York uniform again in 2023-24, but unless there’s a significant change, that’s what’s going to happen. Regardless of how Knicks fans feel about Randle, they should at least want the best for him, considering he plays for their favorite team.

The line should be drawn if you’re a Knicks fan that despises Randle so much that you’d rather see Duncan Robinson in New York in his place. Yes, the same Robinson that averaged only 6.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game during the 2022-23 season after being removed from the Heat’s rotation.

Robinson was spotted in New York by Tiktok creator Ted Zhar, who is notorious for going up to people and asking what they do for a living. Zhar did the same with Robinson, who said that he is an accountant and that the best part about his job is “numbers” because he’s a “big numbers guy.” He said he makes $100,000, which is a far cry from the five-year, $90 million extension he signed with Miami in 2021.

Robinson was having fun with the accountant joke that started with Kelly Olynyk. Earlier this year, Olynyk was stopped by Zhar and said he worked as an accountant.

Zhar’s latest video with Robinson was going relatively normal until the end when the creator told Robinson that he needed to not only come to New York but that he’s better than Randle.

TikTok creator asks Duncan Robinson to come to New York, says he’s better than Knicks’ Julius Randle

Julius Randle is set to make $25.6 million in 2023-24 and $27.6 million in 2024-25 before having a $29.5 million player option in 2025-26. If he can help guide the Knicks back to the playoffs in 2024 and find a way to rebound from his poor postseason performances in the past, perhaps he could get even the most disgruntled Knicks fans back on his side.

Meanwhile, Duncan Robinson will make $18.2 million next season and $19.4 million in 2024-25. He has a $19.9 early termination salary in 2025-26 that would allow him to end his contract early if he chooses to do so.

Robinson’s contract has been labeled one of the league’s worst. The year after signing the extension, his production took a dip. If Heat fans were worried then, they had no idea what was coming in 2022-23. The 29-year-old appeared in only 42 regular season games. Robinson made a comeback by averaging 9.0 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.5 rebounds in the playoffs, but that doesn’t change the answer as to whether he’s overpaid.

Maybe Ted Zhar was kidding by saying that Duncan Robinson is better than Julius Randle, or at least, hopefully he was joking. The Knicks have already struggled to get rid of Evan Fournier and his contract after they signed him to a four-year, $73 million deal in 2021. The last thing New York needs is another overpaid player sitting on the bench.
