1. Charlie Brown Jr.
Aside from having an epic name, there wasn’t much hype surrounding Charlie Brown Jr. entering Summer League. While he was a pretty known player prior, not many thought he’d be arguably the Knicks’ top player in Las Vegas.
In the four games we saw out of Brown, he averaged 19.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game. Alongside this, Brown shot 54.7% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc. While he likely won’t be a rotational player for the Knicks considering that he’s 26 years old and hasn’t seen much action in the NBA, it was still nice to see him ball out.
If not for the Knicks, Brown likely earned himself a spot on another team’s roster or G League squad. This level of success is impressive regardless of a player’s age or experience. Maybe Brown can be a standout player for the Westchester Knicks, which has consistently been one of the more exciting G League teams in the NBA.
We wish that more players managed to stand out. However, considering that most of the roster is full of second-round picks or UDFAs, we aren’t that surprised to see how Summer League went down. Hopefully, with the Knicks’ four first-round picks next year, they can draft some better talent to make the Vegas experience more exciting.
