There are only a few hours left until the start of the 2023 NBA Draft, and the New York Knicks are still without a pick. That could change, even once the draft starts, but it’ll all depend on where the front office stands and how aggressive they want to be about trading into the draft.

Although New York doesn’t have a selection, rumors have been swirling around the organization in recent days. From Obi Toppin and the Knicks reportedly working on finding a “change of scenery” for the forward to New York talking to Los Angeles about a Paul George trade, fans have had plenty of non-draft entertainment.

Latest New York Knicks rumors ahead of 2023 NBA Draft

SNY’s Ian Begley was the one to report that the Knicks and Clippers had been in contact about a Paul George trade. Begley added that it’s unclear whether or not LA wants to move on from George. Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer reported earlier this morning to not expect the Clippers to deal the 33-year-old. However, NBA insider Marc Stein reported (subscription required) earlier this week that rival teams believe that LA is giving “real consideration” to trading George.

There are conflicting reports on whether or not the Clippers are serious about dealing George, but more should be known in the coming days/weeks.

After tweeting that the Knicks had talked to the Clippers about George, Begley dropped another report that included several New York-related topics.

According to Begley, the latest on Obi Toppin is that if a trade were to form where he could go to a team where he could get an increased role, he and the Knicks would be satisfied. He added that if a trade doesn’t emerge, Toppin and New York would presumably work to create one.

Donte DiVincenzo is a player that Begley identified as someone that could step into Tom Thibodeau’s rotation if the Knicks are able to trade Toppin. Unsurprisingly, “influential members” of the organization are keen on New York signing the 26-year-old if he does decline his player option for 2023-24 to become a free agent, which is what’s expected to happen. Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart would undoubtedly be thrilled to team up once again with their former Villanova champion teammate.

The biggest surprise from Begley came when he said that teams have reached out to the Knicks about Miles McBride. The 22-year-old has a $1.8 million club option for 2023-24 that New York is expected to pick up if he isn’t thrown into a trade. He played a small, yet impactful role for the Knicks this past season.

It’s still far too early to be able to decipher which direction New York’s front office will go in this offseason, but the latest batch of rumors gives fans an idea of what Leon Rose and Co. might be planning to do.
