After years and years of the Trail Blazers letting him down, it seems as if there’s finally a chance that Damian Lillard will leave Portland. Whether it be the horrid roster construction or the cryptic tweets Lillard has made, the odds of him leaving this offseason seem higher than ever.

If this becomes the case, it wouldn’t surprise fans one bit to see the Knicks go in on acquiring the seven-time All-Star. It wouldn’t be the most ideal move, however, adding a player of this caliber to the Knicks could be the move that pushes them toward contention. Fit wouldn’t necessarily be a problem, as we know Jalen Brunson can work incredibly well in the off-ball next to a ball-dominant guard.

The Knicks’ defense may take a hit, but the offensive prowess Lillard would bring may be enough to overcome that. One thing is for sure though, Lillard would solve almost all of the Knicks’ offensive problems. Whether it be playmaking, shot creation, three-point shooting, or slashing, Lillard does it all and would change the game for New York.

Acquiring Lillard may cost a lot, but it is a move that could move the needle for the Knicks. There are definitely more desirable stars considering Lillard’s age, contract, and trade price, but it’s a move fans expect Leon Rose to consider.
