1. Chris Paul consistently chokes in the playoffs

Something that became abundantly clear last season is that the Knicks cannot afford to continuously have playoff choke artists on their roster. They’ve already dealt with Julius Randle blowing it in the postseason, so why add Chris Paul to the roster to do the same thing?

Don’t get me wrong, historically, Paul is a great player in the regular season, one of the best ever. However, you can’t ignore the number of times he has consistently come up short when it matters most. Whether it be the ever-so-disappointing Lob City Clippers team, or his failure to win a championship against the Bucks in 2021, Paul has almost always failed when it mattered most.

Even when Paul doesn’t come up short in the playoffs, his consistent injuries have hampered any chance he’s had to win a championship in previous seasons. Paul has gotten worse almost every season since 2019 so there aren’t many reasons to think he’d magically improve in the playoffs.

Paul is still a good player and would probably make the Knicks better. However, adding him to the roster wouldn’t move the needle enough to make the Knicks a championship-contending team. It doesn’t make much sense for either side to come together on a deal.
