Trade #1: Trading Fournier to his former team for a two-way guard

This trade is a little interesting. While on paper the Magic aren’t getting too much, it’s worth noting that they have two lottery picks in this year’s draft and are likely going to need to clear some roster space.

Gary Harris is a very fine backup guard, however, with the likelihood of the Magic taking a guard being relatively high, they may wish to move on from Harris. Alongside this, they’d also be getting an additional first-round pick and a way to clear up a ton of cap space at the end of the season if they choose to decline Fournier’s option.

In 48 games last season, Harris averaged 8.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 45.0% from the field and 43.1% from three on 4.5 attempts. In addition to this, he is also a very good defender off the bench, the kind any team would love to have.

Harris likely won’t want to come off the bench as a reserve on the Magic. Regardless of whether or not the Magic wish to keep him, they likely will need to move on from him. Adding this sort of 3-and-D guard to the Knicks’ rotation would go a long way in helping solve some of the team’s biggest problems.
