Two decisions that the New York Knicks will have to make this summer involve Josh Hart and Immanuel Quickley. Hart is expected to opt out of his $12.96 million player option for 2023-24 to sign a larger contract as a free agent while Quickley will become eligible to sign an extension on July 1.
Hart’s repeatedly said that he wants to stay in New York and based on how he performed after the trade deadline, the front office would be wild to let him walk. Understandably so, the belief is that Hart will sign a long-term contract with the Knicks in free agency. According to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer, an extension for Hart and New York is “expected to approach $18 million annually.”
On HoopsHype’s podcast, Michael Scotto said that he believes a four-year, $72 million deal would be “suitable” for Hart and the Knicks. New York Daily News’ Stefan Bondy, who was a guest on the podcast, said that he heard that Hart’s new contract could be in the four-year, $70-$75 million range.
As for Quickley, Scotto said after speaking with people around the league, his understanding is that the guard’s “floor” for an extension is in the four-year, $80 million range and could go into the $100 million range.
A dream offseason for Knicks fans would include the team not only retaining Josh Hart in free agency but also signing Immanuel Quickley to an extension, too.
