New York Knicks that should be cut loose: Jericho Sims

Throughout his young career with the Knicks, Jericho Sims has shown some signs of development. A shoulder injury ended his season a bit prematurely. However, without a clear and defined role for the Knicks heading into next season, Sims is a player that the team could look to move on from heading into the offseason.

Sims has one guaranteed year remaining on his contract and a team option for the 2024-25 season. I’m not saying the Knicks need to move on from Sims this offseason but they must be realistic and fair with the current circumstance. What Sims needs most right now is playing time. Behind Mitchell Robinson and Isaiah Hartenstein heading into next season, assuming New York doesn’t move one of them this offseason, Sims won’t be in a position where he can take the next step in his game.

Sims will be 25 by the time next season begins and New York may not be the best spot for him at this point in his career. Sims could very well develop into a capable backup in the NBA; he’s just not a player that the Knicks technically need with their current depth in the frontcourt.
