Because of the Mavericks’ tanking efforts that resulted in Dallas finishing the 2022-23 regular season with the 10th-worst record, the New York Knicks are without a pick in the draft. The Knicks had a low percentage to get either the No. 11 or No. 12 pick, but the results of the draft lottery fell in the Mavericks’ favor.

If New York would’ve been awarded a first-round pick, it could’ve been included in a trade. The Knicks had the No. 11 pick in last year’s draft but winded up trading the selection away in what was a wild draft night. Moving forward, the organization’s goal should be to build around Jalen Brunson, which means that a disgruntled star (subscription required) could be on their way to New York this offseason.

There’s always the chance that the Knicks will trade into the draft, perhaps to get a late first-round pick. If that doesn’t happen, though, draft night should be relatively quiet for New York fans. One thing that fans can do in the meantime is monitor where the Knicks’ division rivals are slated to pick in the draft.

What are Knicks’ division rivals’ picks in 2023 NBA Draft?

Out of the five teams in the Atlantic Division, the Raptors posted the worst 2022-23 regular season record at 41-41. Toronto finished as the No. 5 team in the East in 2021-22 but followed that up with a ninth-place finish that resulted in the Raptors being eliminated in the play-in tournament.

Toronto is the lone division team to have a lottery pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, but that’s the only pick that the organization has.

Toronto

  • No. 14 pick

Then there’s Brooklyn. The Nets lost two stars in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving last season, and because Brooklyn is no longer a destination for stars, the organization is back to trying to build through the draft.

Brooklyn

  • No. 21 pick
  • No. 22 pick
  • No. 51 pick (second round)

Boston has enjoyed the most success in the division in recent years and will have the opportunity to sign Jaylen Brown to a supermax extension after he was named All-NBA Second Team. It was rumored that he could be looking to go elsewhere, like the Rockets, but it’ll be hard for him to turn down that money, which plays in the Celtics’ favor.

Boston

  • No. 35 pick (second round)

The Sixers are in a similar boat as the Knicks but for a different reason. Philadelphia was supposed to have a second-round pick in this year’s draft, but that was taken away from the organization due to tampering with P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr. in free agency. Because the Sixers don’t have a first-round pick, the team doesn’t have a pick in the draft.

Philadelphia

  • No picks

Looking ahead to the 2024 NBA Draft, the Knicks have several picks, including their own first-round pick. Keep in mind that some of those picks could be thrown into a trade if New York does get a star this summer. The rumors may get tiring, but at least fans have something to look forward to beyond a rather uneventful draft night.
