Despite the immense amount of success fans saw out of the Knicks this season, it was not all sunshine and rainbows. Most players performed incredibly well, but some did not, playing at a rather disappointing level compared to their expectations.

These players’ lack of high-level play wasn’t the end of the world considering the Knicks were still the fifth seed in the East. However, it’s nice to imagine how much better the team could have been if they had met their expectations.

Whether they didn’t take the jump they were supposed to, had a down year, or were just cut from the rotation, these guys all disappointed in their own ways and unfortunately let the Knicks down this season.

3 Knicks players that had a disappointing 2022-23 season

3. Derrick Rose

At one point in time, Derrick Rose was an incredibly vital player for the Knicks. He was arguably their best player during the 2021 playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks. However, Rose has since been cut from the Knicks rotation due to injuries and for this season in particular, a lack of consistent play.

Rose was still solid for the Knicks during the 2021-22 season, however, an ankle injury limited him to just 26 games. Entering the season, many thought Rose would be ready to go and contribute heavily to the Knicks bench alongside Immanuel Quickley.

Despite this, Rose had a rough start to the season and was soon removed from the rotation once Tom Thibodeau cut it down to nine players. In the 27 games Rose appeared in, he averaged 5.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 38.4% from the field and 30.2% from three on 2.3 attempts.

The leap made by Quickley has made the disappointing play from Rose mean little-to-nothing in terms of the Knicks’ success. However, it would have been nice to still see Rose contribute to winning this season considering how much the fans and Thibodeau love him.
