2. PF Julius Randle
Before the start of the season, many were questioning if Julius Randle should even remain with the Knicks following his atrocious 2021-22 season. However, in a pivotal season where the Knicks’ success was dependent on his level of play, Randle has stepped up in a huge way, including making his second All-Star Game.
Randle wasn’t perfect in the regular season, but compared to last season he was much improved. In 77 games, Randle averaged 25.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while shooting 45.9% from the field and 34.3% from deep on 8.3 attempts.
The confidence Randle has put on display at times this season was almost non-existent last year and has made a massive difference in his level of play. He could very well make another All-NBA team depending on how the voters feel.
Hopefully, Randle can find his groove offensively as the Knicks are in their second playoff series in three seasons against the Cavaliers, as New York cannot afford another postseason collapse out of him.
Regardless, New York needed this kind of regular season from Randle. While we may never know how close it was to actually happening, I think I speak for all fans when I say I’m very thankful Leon Rose opted not to ship Randle off either before or during the season.
