With the 2022-23 regular season over and playoffs in full force, we have the numbers of how the Knicks have performed this season. This has been an incredibly successful season for New York and while not everyone had a great regular season, most players performed rather well.

However, there are a few players on the Knicks who have stood out compared to others. These guys had certain expectations before the season that has been completely shattered by their play, which is a fitting theme overall for the 2022-23 season for New York.

3 Knicks players who have surpassed their expectations this season

3. PG/SG Immanuel Quickley

Prior to this season, Immanuel Quickley had back-to-back seasons in which he struggled heavily with consistency and efficiency. While many expected to see an improvement in year three, we’re not sure anyone saw Quickley making the leap that he has made.

Not only has Quickley put it all together on the offensive side of the ball, having his most efficient regular season by far while also averaging a career-high in points, but he has made an absurd jump on the defensive side of the ball, arguably being deserving of an All-Defensive selection.

In 81 regular season games, Quickley averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists while shooting 44.8% from the field and 37.0% from deep on 5.6 attempts. These numbers came while primarily playing off the bench, making the regular season Quickley had all the more impressive.

This jump from Quickley was what helped propel the Knicks past their preseason expectations. While most had the Knicks making at least the play-in tournament, the spark Quickley has brought off the bench undoubtedly is what helped push New York to the fifth seed.
