New York Knicks third-year guard Immanuel Quickley was named a Sixth Man of the Year Award finalist last week alongside Boston’s Malcolm Brogdon and Milwaukee’s Bobby Portis.

Quickley averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 81 games (21 starts) during the 2022-23 regular season. He shot 44.8% from the field and 37% from three. Not only has he been a scoring punch off the bench, but he’s made a leap on the defensive side of the ball as well.

There were trade rumors involving Quickley leading up to the deadline with the Knicks reportedly looking for a first-round pick in return, but his play caused those rumors to stop. The 23-year-old is eligible to sign an extension this summer, which is something that the majority of fans want to see happen.

In his third year, Quickley’s efforts could be rewarded with a Sixth Man trophy. The winner will be announced on TNT Thursday during pregame coverage of Nets-Sixers Game 3. After watching New York put up an embarrassing effort in Game 2, fans could use a boost leading up to Game 3 at the Garden on Friday night.

Knicks’ Immanuel Quickley Sixth Man of Year award finalist, winner announced on Thursday

The NBA has already announced Defensive Player of the Year (Jaren Jackson Jr.), Clutch Player of the Year (De’Aaron Fox), and Coach of the Year (Mike Brown). Next up is Sixth Man of the Year.

Immanuel Quickley’s biggest competition for the award is Malcolm Brogdon, who averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 67 games for the Celtics (no starts) while shooting 48.4% from the floor and 44.4% from deep. Votes seem to be split pretty evenly and will come down to either the Knicks or Celtics guard taking the trophy home.

The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor recently said that he believes that Quickley will be the winner, which, of course, is hopefully what ends up happening. The last time that a Knick won the award was in 2013 when J.R. Smith won it, which ironically enough was the last time that New York advanced past the first round of the playoffs.

Let’s hope that not only Immanuel Quickley will win Sixth Man, but that the Knicks will advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals over the Cavaliers.
