3 Things Knicks desperately need to leave behind in hideous playoff defeat
1: Careless turnovers
The turnovers seemed to keep on coming on Tuesday in horrific fashion. Surely it couldn’t get more embarrassing, right? That’s what Knicks fans kept asking themselves, yet somehow, it only got worse.
New York finished with 17 turnovers and 14 of those came in the first half. Nine (!!) happened in the second quarter alone. It was a stark difference from what fans had gotten used to watching this season.
Julius Randle led the team with six turnovers, with a few of those coming from him driving to the basket only to kick out a sloppy pass to the wing. His play was careless and disorganized, but he wasn’t the only one. Mitchell Robinson had two turnovers, as did Brunson, Grimes, and Hartenstein.
Hopefully similar to how Cleveland approached Game 2 after its Game 1 loss, New York will learn from its mistakes in Game 2. That means fewer isolation positions, please. The Knicks need to take a look at how the Cavaliers attacked them and find a way to adjust.
Game 2 was a nightmare, but it’s time to wipe the slate clean. The series is tied 1-1. Tuesday might’ve sort of felt like the end of the world, but it wasn’t. It’s time for one of the best things that the NBA has to offer — playoff basketball at MSG.
