Knicks’ Jalen Brunson’s Villanova teammate claps back at Mark Cuban
With the Mavericks’ season all but over, Mark Cuban decided to stick his foot in his mouth by blaming Rick Brunson for Jalen Brunson signing with the New York Knicks in free agency. Rather than retain Brunson at nearly half the cost of his current contract with the Knicks, Dallas let the point guard walk.
Cuban claimed that the Mavericks wanted to re-sign Brunson (so why didn’t they?) and that Brunson never gave them an indication that he wanted to be elsewhere. Well, a few weeks ago, Brunson told Bleacher Report that he thought he was going to be in Dallas long-term. He admitted that he would’ve signed the four-year, $56 million contract with the Mavericks if it had been presented to him.
Although Cuban tried to make it sound like Dallas had the short end of the stick in negotiations with Brunson, the reality is that the organization made a massive mistake by letting him slip through their fingers. Cuban’s lack of accountability likely has something to do with the frustration that he may be feeling due to the Mavericks’ season being a failure while the Knicks’ has been the exact opposite in large part because of Brunson.
Brunson hasn’t taken any shots at Cuban or Dallas since leaving as he isn’t that type of player, but that doesn’t mean that his former teammates can’t call out Dallas’ owner.
Villanova national champion Kris Jenkins calls out Mark Cuban after lame Jalen Brunson claim
Many know Kris Jenkins from his epic game-winning shot in 2016 during the National Championship game against UNC that won the title for Villanova. Jalen Brunson was on that team, so Jenkins knows the guard well.
Jenkins’ tweet backs up what Brunson has said. The guard said he would’ve re-signed with Dallas but that a contract was never offered to him. The Mavericks could’ve locked him up for four more years, but it turns out that it all ended up working out better for Brunson in the end. Not only is he making more money in New York, but he’s on a team that has a better future outlook.
Cuban is likely still reeling from losing Brunson in the first place. He wants to make it seem like Dallas never had a chance to match New York’s offer when the Mavericks had multiple chances before then to re-sign Brunson.
Kris Jenkins sees through Mark Cuban, as do many others that don’t know Jalen Brunson personally.
