Trae Young… to the Knicks? That’s odd to type out and read, so imagine if it actually ended up happening. To put it nicely, New York fans aren’t fond of Young, so it’d be quite the turn of events if MSG had to root for him rather than boo him.

Whether or not the Knicks should go all-in on Young if he does request a trade is a good question. His numbers have taken a slight dip this season compared to 2021-22 as he’s averaging 26.8 points, 10 assists (which is a career-high), 3.1 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 66 games while shooting 43.3% from the field and 34.1% from three.

The 24-year-old is the face of the Hawks franchise, but there’s reason to believe that he may not want to remain in Atlanta through the 2025-26 season. He was at odds with former head coach Nate McMillan, who was replaced with Quin Snyder. The Hawks are currently in play-in range as they sit at No. 8 in the East, but that’s not where many expected the team would be after trading for Dejounte Murray last summer.

Similar to Miami, Atlanta has underperformed. Young will soon be wrapping up his fifth season with the Hawks after being the No. 5 pick in 2018. After making it to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, Atlanta was a first-round exit in 2022. If the Hawks are unable to make it past the play-in tournament this year, there will be even more speculation about Young’s future with the organization.

He’s a very ball-dominant guard, so it’s hard to envision him meshing with Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson. And is he the player that the Knicks have been waiting on? Regardless, New York will be considered a landing spot for Young if he does want out because of the first-round picks that the front office has accumulated. However, Jaylen Brown would be a much better fit for the Knicks than Trae Young.
