With the buyout market chock full of talent, alongside the Knicks having two open spots on their roster, it is rather likely that we see New York bring in a couple of veterans to ride the bench and play a role as a leader or see some minutes in the case of an injury.

There may be plenty of talent available for New York to bring in, however, there are certain players the Knicks should do their best to avoid for one reason or another. While nothing will really change no matter who they sign considering that the Knicks seemingly have their rotation set, it simply would not be worth bringing certain players in.

Regardless, the Knicks simply aren’t in need of what these three players bring to the table whether it be their skills on the court, or as a leader.

3 buyout market options the Knicks should avoid signing

3: PF Kevin Love

Kevin Love may still serve some purpose as a stretch big and a leader, however, his defensive woes and inefficiency this season make it very difficult for the Knicks to want him on their roster, especially considering the likely lack of mutual interest.

Through 41 games this season, Love is averaging 8.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 38.9% from the field and 35.4% from beyond the arc on 4.8 attempts. Alongside this, Love’s defense is as bad as it’s ever been so unless he drastically improves his offense heading into this last stretch of the season, there aren’t many reasons for the Knicks to sign him.

I’m sure Love could provide some incredible leadership off the bench in a reserve role, but there are multiple teams that are likely interested in Love that could provide him with minutes in the rotation.

The Knicks already have their backup power forward in Obi Toppin and while he may not be a whole lot better than Love, he certainly has more potential whether it be for big games or in the long run.

Not only will Love likely have suitors who will offer him more both in terms of money and role, but the Knicks simply shouldn’t waste that solid of a player by sitting him on the bench with no minutes.
