NBA Mock Draft: Will Victor Wembanyama be drafted by Knicks rival?
Now that the trade deadline chaos is over, it’s time for New York Knicks fans to start looking ahead to what might happen during the 2023 NBA Draft. There’s a lot on the time, and by a lot, I mean Victor Wembanyama. The 19-year-old player for Metropolitans 92 has already taken the NBA world by storm.
There’s no doubt that Wembanyama is going to go first overall in June. He’s considered one of the greatest prospects for a reason. Teams like the Spurs, Rockets, Pistons, and Hornets are crossing their fingers and hoping that the ping-pong balls will be in their favor during the NBA Draft Lottery in May.
The Knicks aren’t in the running for Wembanyama, but that doesn’t mean that fans shouldn’t be curious about where the French native will end up. Hopefully, he’ll take his talents to a team in the Western Conference.
Luckily, the latest mock draft from CBS Sports has San Antonio selecting Wemby with the No. 1 overall pick.
Knicks fans should be rooting for CBS 2023 NBA Mock Draft to come true
Here are the top five picks from CBS’ mock draft:
As you can see, Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson are projected to be drafted by two Western Conference teams. Detroit and Charlotte, who sit at the bottom of the East with 15-43 records, are projected to have the No. 3 and No. 4 picks. Knicks fans should be hoping that’s the order that will be made official on draft lottery night.
In this mock draft, South Carolina’s Gregory ‘GG’ Jackson is slated to go No. 17 to New York. The six-foot-nine freshman forward is averaging 15.7 points and 6.2 rebounds in 25 games for the Gamecocks while shooting 39.4% from the floor and 34.6% from three.
Jackson turned 18 back in December after reclassifying to the 2022 class and is projected to go anywhere from a top-five pick to a late lottery pick. His shooting splits need work, but he’s adapted well at a young age to being South Carolina’s leading scorer. He can handle the ball well for his size, too.
GG Jackson has a ton of potential that could benefit whichever team he ends up with, especially if he ends up falling outside of the lottery. Will he end up being the steal of the draft for the Knicks?
