It was only 13 months ago when the New York Knicks sent Kevin Knox and a protected first-round pick to the Hawks for Cam Reddish. After finishing the 2021-22 season in Atlanta, Knox signed a two-year, $6 million deal with Detroit over the summer.

The Knicks moved on from their No. 9 overall pick in 2018 for Reddish, who the Hawks selected with the No. 10 pick in 2019. A few years after being lottery picks, Knox and Reddish were sent packing to new teams.

The Reddish experiment in New York proved to be a failure from the beginning with Tom Thibodeau delegating the former Duke Blue Devil to the bench. His name was floated around in trade rumors over the summer, but he remained with the Knicks in what was thought to be his first full season in New York.

After he did well as a starter over the span of a couple of weeks, a minor groin injury kept him sidelined for a couple of games. He was never given the opportunity to reclaim his spot in the rotation after that. His final game as a Knick was on Dec. 3. Reddish was sent to Portland on Wednesday night with Svi Myhailiuk, Ryan Arcidiacono, and a protected first-round pick in exchange for Josh Hart.

On Thursday, the Pistons sent Knox to the Trail Blazers as part of a multi-team trade. So, a little over a year after being part of a New York-Atlanta trade, Reddish and Knox are now teammates in Portland.

Things have a weird way of working out, don’t they? Cam Reddish is on his third team since being drafted and Kevin Knox is on his fourth. Both are still working to find their fit after being lottery picks in back-to-back years.

Knox actually appeared in more games for Detroit this season (42) than Reddish did for New York (20), although Reddish had a higher minutes average. Reddish has untapped potential that could turn into a major gain for the Trail Blazers, while Knox could find himself on his fifth team over the offseason.

Reddish will be a restricted free agent over the summer, so depending on how the remainder of the season plays out for him in Portland, the Trail Blazers could give him a new contract. Knox has a $3 million club option for 2023-24.

Hopefully, both Cam Reddish and Kevin Knox can find the success that they’ve been in search of. Once a Knick always a Knick, right?
