Updated Knicks draft pick situation following Josh Hart trade
With the trade deadline finally in the past, things are set in stone for the Knicks this season. While there weren’t many moves made (just one in the form of the Josh Hart trade), we should still take a look at what assets the Knicks have left.
The Knicks traded away three of their players and one protected draft pick for Hart, which for a player of that caliber, is quite a good deal. However, the question still remains, what draft picks do the Knicks have left in the coming seasons?
Honestly, you may be surprised by how many picks the Knicks have from now to 2029, but then again, New York hasn’t made many moves to lose them.
Updated Knicks draft picks from 2023 to 2029 after the Josh Hart trade
The funny thing about the picks the Knicks currently have is that almost all of them came from the 2022 NBA Draft when Leon Rose orchestrated multiple trades to both shed contracts and acquire future assets.
Outside of that burst of moves, the Knicks have been rather quiet in terms of trades. Outside of the Hart trade, there have not been any trades since the draft, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Anyways, here is a look at what picks the Knicks own from 2023 to 2029:
2023 NBA Draft:
- 1st Rd Pick via. WAS (top-14 protected)
- 1st Rd Pick via. DET (top-18 protected)
- 1st Rd Pick via. DAL (top-10 protected)
2024 NBA Draft:
- Own 1st Rd Pick
- 2nd Rd Pick via. UTAH or CLE
- 2nd Rd Pick via. MIA
- 2nd Rd Pick via. DET
2025 NBA Draft:
- Own 1st Rd Pick
- 1st Rd Pick via. MIL
- 1st Rd Pick via. DET
- 1st Rd Pick via. BKN
2026 NBA Draft:
- Own 1st Rd Pick
2027 NBA Draft:
- Own 1st Rd Pick
- Own 2nd Rd Pick
2028 NBA Draft:
- Own 1st Rd Pick
- Own 2nd Rd Pick
2029 NBA Draft:
- Own 1st Rd Pick
- Own 2nd Rd Pick
That wraps up the draft picks the Knicks currently own. While this is nothing too crazy, it’s good to see the Knicks have a plethora of picks in 2025. Hopefully, as the years go on, Rose (or whoever is in charge) continues to add more picks, as the league is only going to get more and more talented.
However, this year could be an incredibly interesting year in terms of draft picks. While it seems like the only guaranteed pick the Knicks have now is the Mavericks first rounder due to how good of a team they are, the Wizards could sneak into the playoffs and hand their pick over to New York.
Regardless, it’s going to be a very fun second half of the season after the Hart trade. Speaking personally, I am very excited for not only the rest of this year but the future of the Knicks in general.
