2 Knicks players that are likely ending final full month in New York
2. Derrick Rose
Derrick Rose entered the 2022-23 season fully healthy after playing in only 26 games in 2021-22, but it’s been exactly a month since he last played in a game for the Knicks. On Dec. 31, he played 11 minutes in New York’s 108-88 win over Houston.
Since then, Rose’s name has been brought up in trade rumors, with teams like the Mavericks coming to mind. Dallas signed Kemba Walker in late November but waived him in early January so that his contract wouldn’t become guaranteed. Unlike Walker’s issue with his knee, Rose isn’t dealing with any lingering injuries, so he could be a player that the Mavericks trade for ahead of the deadline.
Knicks want to “do right by” veteran favorite Derrick Rose in trade talks
On Jan. 14, Marc Stein reported (subscription required), “Sources say that New York is open to finding a new home via trade for former MVP Derrick Rose, but only if it can, as one insider put it, “do right by” the longtime Thibodeau favorite.” If Dallas can get Luka Doncic some help, Rose could play a role in a deep playoff run for Dallas if that’s where he ends up.
Regardless, the Knicks no longer have a need for Rose with players like Quentin Grimes, Immanuel Quickley, and Deuce McBride receiving more minutes this season. Rose can be a contributor elsewhere, though, which is why all signs are pointing toward him leaving New York sometime over the next week.
