SNY’s Ian Begley reveals what Knicks were ‘comfortable’ offering in OG Anunoby trade
With the trade deadline less than two weeks away, it won’t be too much longer until NBA fans learn of the Toronto Raptors’ plans. Will the Raptors decide to be sellers and build around Scottie Barnes? More specifically, will Toronto let OG Anunoby go? That’s something that the New York Knicks are likely wondering.
Anunoby has been a hot talking point as of late, and rightfully so. If the Raptors were willing to trade him, the 25-year-old would be one of the most sought-after players on the market.
Before the Knicks went on their eight-game winning streak back in December, Ian Begley reported that the front office inquired about Anunoby. Begley followed up with that report on Thursday in his mailbag and wrote, “… in their conversation about Anunoby prior to the winning streak, New York was comfortable offering multiple first-round picks for Anunoby.”
Will the Knicks trade for Raptors’ OG Anunoby ahead of the deadline?
Earlier this week, The Toronto Star’s Bruce Arthur wrote, “At least one team has previously offered three first-round picks for Anunoby, and Siakam is worth more.” Based on Begley’s report about what New York was ‘comfortable’ offering for Anunoby last month, that team was likely the Knicks.
It should be noted that Doug Smith of The Toronto Star reported last week that the Raptors are reportedly looking to get two promising young players on team-friendly deals and a first-round pick for Anunoby. The Knicks have what it would take to get a deal done if that’s what the Raptors are looking for. Even if Toronto is seeking multiple first-round picks for Anunoby, New York could do that, too.
Of course, it all depends on if the Raptors are willing to trade a key piece of their core and if the Knicks will be willing to meet Toronto’s asking price. New York isn’t the only team that will be calling Toronto about Anunoby if he is made available, either.
Will OG Anunoby soon be on a new team? Will that new team be the Knicks? Or will he remain in Toronto? Stay tuned.
