Latest OG Anunoby Raptors trade rumor could drive Knicks away
The New York Knicks will face the Toronto Raptors for the second time this season on Friday night. After losing 113-106 to the Raptors on Dec. 21, the Knicks will have an opportunity to get revenge on Pascal Siakam and Toronto.
With the trade deadline being a little over a month away, the Knicks have been labeled as one of the most active teams on the market. New York has a few players that it needs to part with by Feb. 9, but after missing out on Donovan Mitchell over the summer, the Knicks could end up being buyers, too.
The Raptors have followed up their No. 5 finish in the Eastern Conference last season with a 16-22 record that currently has them sitting at No. 12. Toronto’s disappointing first half of the season has opened up the idea of the Raptors parting with their two best players in Siakam and OG Anunoby.
Toronto’s struggles have caught New York’s eye. According to SNY’s Ian Begley, “a member of the Knicks reached out to Toronto a few weeks ago to check in about OG Anunoby.” Begley reported that on Dec. 21. The Knicks have the draft capital to get a deal done, but according to the latest Anunoby trade rumor, the front office could stay away from being interested in the 25-year-old altogether.
Knicks trade target OG Anunoby rumored to go for high price if Raptors trade him
SportsNet’s Michael Grange reported earlier this week that according to a league insider, the Raptors could get a “s— load” of assets if they do decide to trade OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam. Of the two, Anunoby is the likelier player to be traded, and based on Grange’s report, his price tag could be too high for the Knicks.
If New York’s front office wasn’t willing to go all in for Donovan Mitchell, why would they do so for Anunoby? Mitchell is having the best year of his career with the Cavaliers which has included an incredible 71-point performance. It’s hard to see Leon Rose giving the Raptors a haul similar to what the Jazz got for Mitchell, which is what ESPN’s Zach Lowe believes Toronto will get if Anunoby is dealt.
But still, the Knicks tend to make unexpected moves, so Anunoby is a player that fans should be monitoring regardless. He’s averaging a career-high 18.5 points in 34 games this season and is a great defender. It’d take a lot for Toronto to give him up, but at the trade deadline, anything can happen.
