Earlier this year, the New York Knicks made a surprise move by sending Kevin Knox and a protected first-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for 2019 lottery pick Cam Reddish. His tenure in New York didn’t start on the right foot as he was stashed on the bench and misused by Tom Thibodeau, and that seems to be the reason why his time with the Knicks could soon be coming to an end.

According to Stefan Bondy of New York Daily News, New York is working with Reddish’s representatives on a trade. His healthy DNP in Sunday’s win over Cleveland signified that a trade might be on the horizon, but now it’s been made official that the 23-year-old will likely be dealt ahead of the Feb. 9 deadline.

Tom Thibodeau is rolling with a nine-man rotation that doesn’t include Reddish, who started in eight games this season. A groin injury sidelined him for a couple of games and although Quentin Grimes has done well as a starter since returning from an injury himself, there was no way of knowing that Reddish would be pushed out of the rotation entirely.

Knicks are reportedly working with Cam Reddish’s representatives on a trade

Fred Katz of The Athletic (subscription required) reported on Wednesday morning that New York is willing to attach either Cam Reddish or Immanuel Quickley to Evan Fournier in a trade. Katz wrote that the market for Reddish is “more sparse” than the market for Quickley.

The Knicks didn’t sign Reddish to an extension ahead of the October deadline, so he’ll become a restricted free agent in the summer. Reddish hasn’t appeared to be in New York’s plans since the front office traded for him in January, so it would make sense to send him elsewhere during the season.

The Lakers are a team that have been linked to Reddish, so maybe he’ll end up in LA where he’d surely receive a larger role. Rob Pelinka needs to do something to improve the roster and acquiring Reddish at a low price is a move that the Lakers need to make.

Reddish’s time with the Knicks has been a failure from the start. New York attempted to trade him ahead of the 2022 February deadline and instead of attempting to do that again in 2023, all signs are pointing toward the front office successfully getting a deal done.

Cam Reddish’s inconsistencies have been an issue since he was drafted by the Hawks over three years ago. Hopefully, a fresh start will help him to establish a role elsewhere.
