A day after getting outscored 41-15 in the third quarter against the Dallas Mavericks, the New York Knicks (11-13) upset Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 92-81 win snapped a five-game losing streak at Madison Square Garden.

Jalen Brunson finished with a team-high 23 points (7-of-16) to go along with four assists and two rebounds. Julius Randle had 18 points (7-of-19), eight rebounds, and four assists. Mitchell Robinson dominated the boards with 13 rebounds, including a huge offensive rebound at the end of the game.

Donovan Mitchell led the way for the Cavaliers with 23 points, but he struggled offensively as he shot 8-of-22 from the field and a poor 2-of-11 from three. In Cleveland’s 121-108 win over New York on Oct. 30, Mitchell had eight three-pointers, but on Sunday, the Cavaliers finished with only eight three-pointers as a team.

With the reported uncertainty surrounding the future of the organization, the win over the No. 3 team in the East came at a needed time.

  • After signing former Knicks point guard Kemba Walker earlier this week, the Mavericks are reportedly interested in Derrick Rose. • Mitchell Robinson’s 13 boards against the Cavaliers moved him up to No. 32 on New York’s all-time rebounding list. Robinson is tied with Tyson Chandler (2011-14) at 1,844 rebounds.
