The New York Knicks (10-13) will welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers (15-8) to Madison Square Garden Sunday night. It will be the second meeting between these two teams this season.

In their first matchup, Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Love, and Dean Wade buried New York with a mind-boggling number of three-pointers, especially in the fourth quarter where the Knicks collapsed. New York lost by a final score of 121-108.

Speaking of collapse, the Knicks did so yesterday in their most recent game. With the Dallas Mavericks in town, the Knicks were outscored 69-41 in the second half after leading 59-52 at halftime. Dallas blew up on offense in the third quarter, where they outscored the Knicks 41-15 thanks to an awakening from Luka Doncic and a continued fiery performance by former Knick Tim Hardaway Jr. The defense in the third quarter was non-existent and both team’s benches were unloaded midway through the final frame. It had to be the most embarrassing loss so far this season. New York lost 121-100.

On the other hand, the Cavaliers won their last game where they cruised to a 107-96 win over the Orlando Magic. They are 7-2 in their previous nine games despite missing All-Star Jarrett Allen in the last four games.

New York Knicks vs Cleveland Cavaliers Prediction

I think the Knicks will have their confidence at an all-time low and will come up very short once again. It’s always tough to come back from a major loss, especially when your next game is the following day. It is even harder to win a game against one of the NBA’s best teams the day after collapsing to a team that has struggled mightily of late. Not to mention, the Knicks have now lost four of their last five games and three of those losses were heartbreakers against great teams.

I don’t believe New York has what it takes right now to overcome its recent woes. The Cavaliers are too much of a well-oiled machine for New York to realistically be capable of putting together a confidence-boosting performance.
