After going 3-1 in the preseason, the New York Knicks will begin the 2022-23 regular season against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday at FedExForum. The latest odds favor Ja Morant’s squad in what will be a tough road game for New York.

The Grizzlies are coming off a 56-26 regular season, the second-best in the NBA last year behind the Golden State Warriors. Memphis lost a couple of key pieces of its bench during the offseason though and will be without starting center Jaren Jackson Jr., who had surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot at the end of June.

The Knicks are coming off an offseason that didn’t play out as many hoped that it would. New York wasn’t able to trade for star guard Donovan Mitchell, but the front office did sign RJ Barrett to a four-year extension. Barrett led the Knicks in scoring during the preseason and is expected to do the same in the regular season.

Will New York find a way to leave Memphis 1-0? Or will Morant and Co. be too much for the Knicks?

After suffering an ankle injury in New York’s preseason finale, Obi Toppin went through a full practice on Tuesday and should play. However, Quentin Grimes, who played in the preseason finale but did not practice on Tuesday, is out.

New York Knicks vs Memphis Grizzlies Prediction

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… it wouldn’t be all that surprising if the Knicks ended up winning this game. The addition of Jalen Brunson will benefit New York in more ways than one, and that includes knocking off some of the better teams in the league.

However, with this game being in Memphis, the Grizzlies should win this one. You can expect it to be a close one, though. Nonetheless, this will be a good first test for the Knicks.

Memphis 105, New York 101
