Patrick Ewing will soon be entering his sixth season as the head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball program. As part of some fun before the Hoyas start the year on Nov. 8, players were asked to identify Ewing’s New York Knicks teammates.
In what would’ve been an easy exercise for those reading this, the Hoyas were shown pictures of former Knicks and were told to guess who they were. Afterward, Ewing was shown the video, which allowed him to have a good laugh.
Georgetown players asked to identify Patrick Ewing’s Knicks teammates
Players were first shown a picture of Charles Oakley, and responses ranged from “I don’t know” to “he’s swole.” Junior Victor Muresan even guessed David Robinson, who spent his entire 14-year career with the San Antonio Spurs. Only two people guessed correctly.
Doc Rivers was up next and given that he’s an active head coach in the NBA and he has a very distinguishable face, everyone should’ve guessed his name right away. However, sophomore Jordan Riley responded with, “No clue.” It’s worth noting that Riley is from Brentwood, which is a little under two-and-a-half hours away from New York City.
When players were shown John Starks, sophomore Brandon Murray said, “This is the dude that dunked on Michael Jordan.”
Hey, at least Murray remembered that.
Considering that Mark Jackson’s an ESPN analyst, four players knew who he was. Nobody could identify Gerald Wilkins, though. Once again, Muresan’s answer came out of left field when he thought Wilkins was Isiah Thomas, who only played for the Detroit Pistons.
Ewing’s justification for his players was, “I guess they’re just that young.” When the Hoyas come to New York for the BIG EAST tournament in 2023, Ewing should consider scheduling a Knicks history lesson.
