Here’s why Knicks could want to start Evan Fournier over Quentin Grimes
New York Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said during training camp that Evan Fournier is the frontrunner to start at shooting guard, and New York Knicks fans were not happy to hear this. I am part of this majority, as I 100% think that Quentin Grimes should start at shooting guard over Fournier.
Now, I do not think Fournier starting at shooting guard is worth hitting the panic button over. Fournier did break the record for most threes made in a season and is definitely the best shooter in New York, so the world will not end with Fournier as the starter.
Also, the best way for New York to trade Fournier is to start him, as relegating him to the bench would hurt his value, and trading Fournier really is the best move that could be made.
Will the Knicks trade Evan Fournier to make way for Quentin Grimes?
The Knicks have too many players who need minutes. They traded a first-round pick for Cam Reddish in January, and Thibs has decided that Reddish can twiddle his thumbs at the end of the bench because heaven forbid he play a versatile wing with great athleticism, shooting potential, and one of the team’s best on-ball defenders.
The Knicks should go all in on the youth movement which is something I said directly after Donovan Mitchell was traded to the Cavaliers. They should do everything in their power to move Julius Randle and Evan Fournier, creating room for the young guys to play heavy minutes.
It is no secret that the Knicks look at Quentin Grimes as the starting shooting guard of the future, and I’m ready for that to begin now, as there is no reason for Fournier to be on the roster anymore.
I also think that the Knicks are well aware of this, and will move Fournier when they can. Fournier makes sense on a contending team, and I have discussed a trade involving him that would open up the roster for a youth movement.
