2: Finish the season with an above .500 record

If the Knicks want to have a successful season, they should win more than they lose, correct? Correct. It’s a very simple, yet difficult strategy.

Last year, New York finished 11th in the East with a 37-45 record. In 2020-21, the Knicks truly did shock the world when they finished fourth in the conference with a 41-31 record considering that the year before that, their record was 21-45 in the COVID-shortened season.

If New York can manage to finish at .500, people would be surprised, but if the team can finish above .500, the surprise would turn to amazement. The Eastern Conference is stacked, and teams that made it to the play-in/playoffs last season got better in the offseason. It’s going to be an absolute battle for the Knicks to reach .500, especially when you look at the other teams in their division, but it’s not impossible.

Even if New York does finish above .500 this season, that doesn’t mean that the team will be a lock for the postseason, but still, it’d show improvement for the Knicks. After all, since the 2000-01 season, New York has only finished above .500 five times.
