3 underrated Knicks players that will have massive roles in 2022-23
1: Obi Toppin
Last season, we saw Obi Toppin make a massive jump as an all-around player. While this was mostly due to an increase of minutes at the end of the year, watching Toppin play showed that he fleshed out his game a good bit as he became a better all-around scorer and finisher. He averaged 9.0 PPG, 3.7 RPG, and 1.1 APG while shooting an impressive 53.8% from the field.
Toppin made some absolutely massive leaps towards the end of the season, averaging an insane 20.0 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 2.3 APG while shooting an unbelievable 57.7% from the field and 44.8% from three on 5.8 attempts per game all within the final 10 games of the season.
Obviously, this is likely not sustainable in a full 82-game season. However, seeing that Toppin can be extremely productive when given the minutes is something to be excited about, especially with the possibility that starting PF Julius Randle could be traded.
Regardless of whether or not Randle is traded, Toppin is set to make yet another jump this upcoming season. If he is given the proper minutes, there are almost no reasons to believe that Toppin won’t contribute at a high level.
