2: Quentin Grimes

With the Knicks signing Jalen Brunson this offseason, it will be smart not to run him and Evan Fournier in the starting lineup for the sake of the team’s defense. That being said, I believe the best option to run at the two spot is sophomore guard Quentin Grimes. He is a player who showed a lot of potential to be a great 3&D guard in this league.

Grimes’ stats may not have been anything crazy, as he only averaged about 6.0 PPG while shooting 40.4% from the field and a very impressive 38.1% from three on about 4.1 attempts per game.

So while his stats may not be all that impressive, watching him play shows just how valuable he can be when given the proper minutes. I believe the lack of stats is more on the fact that head coach Tom Thibodeau gave him very few minutes, only about 17.1 per game.

I believe that if Grimes were to step up into the starting lineup he could be a very valuable member of the team. Even if his three-ball is not falling, he can provide a ton of production on the defensive side of the ball, which is something the team really needs with Brunson as the starting point guard.

While Grimes may have his up-and-down moments on the offensive side of the ball due to his inexperience, if he can stay consistent on defense, he will be one of the most valuable players in the starting lineup. Outside of Mitchell Robinson and RJ Barrett, the starting lineup does not have any other good defenders.
