5. Jeff Van Gundy

Jeff Van Gundy remains one of the best coaches that the franchise has had. He was the reason why the Knicks were competitive in the 90s. Taking the place of Pat Riley, Van Gundy maintained New York’s tough and defensive identity.

With Van Gundy, the Knicks were destined to reach the Eastern Conference Finals or NBA Finals. Nowadays, you can see Jeff Van Gundy calling games alongside Mark Jackson and Mike Breen on ESPN. It’s decades later, and Van Gundy still manages to punch his ticket to the NBA Finals.

4. Allan Houston

Simply a New York Knick great, Allan Houston was loved by many. A sharpshooter that could hit from deep and the mid-range, Houston’s health prohibited him from having a prosperous career.

He made the All-Star team twice in 2000 and 2001 after helping lead the Knicks to the Finals in 1999. In 1999, he helped New York pull off an unbelievable feat as the team beat the Miami Heat in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs. His buzzer-beater with 0.8 seconds left lifted the eighth-seeded Knicks over the first-place Heat, which was only the second time that has happened in history!

Allan Houston has remained a Knick in 2022 but in the front office. He is now the special assistant to the general manager, and he even served as general manager of the G-League Westchester Knicks.
