The 2022 NBA Christmas Day schedule was released a few days before the 2022-23 regular season schedule. The New York Knicks will be hosting the Philadelphia Sixers on Dec. 25. After the Atlanta Hawks played at MSG on the holiday last year, the team won’t be playing on Christmas.

Last Dec. 25, New York beat Atlanta, 101-87, behind Kemba Walker’s triple-double. The point guard is no longer with the team, but this year, Jalen Brunson will get to lead the Knicks on Christmas. That isn’t something that Young will get to do with the Hawks and his new backcourt teammate Dejounte Murray.

Young missed the Christmas Day matchup against New York last year after he and several of his teammates entered the NBA’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols. And after learning that he wouldn’t get to make up for it this Christmas, the guard took to Twitter to share his thoughts.

Trae Young and the Hawks won’t be playing on Christmas after facing the Knicks last year

To no surprise, Young’s mentions were full of users saying how it doesn’t make sense that the Knicks got a Christmas Day game over the Hawks.

New York’s played on the holiday more than any other team in the league (54). The Knicks playing at Madison Square Garden on Christmas only makes sense, and even opposing players can appreciate spending the holiday in the city.

The “outrage” over the Knicks playing on Christmas has been quite entertaining. It might take a while for opposing fans to admit that New York isn’t the same team that it has been in previous seasons, but then again that may never happen since people know that talking about the Knicks in a negative manner will always garner attention.

Christmas in Madison Square Garden just sounds right. Christmas in State Farm Arena doesn’t. Better luck next time, Atlanta.
