Although there’s an expectation that Donovan Mitchell will be on the New York Knicks before the offseason ends, there’s still the possibility that he’ll be suiting up for the Utah Jazz again in 2022-23. One of the newest members of the Jazz, Pat Beverley, hopes that Mitchell will stay in Utah.

Beverley, who helped to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to the playoffs for the first time in four years this past season, was sent to the Jazz as part of the Rudy Gobert trade.

The 34-year-old has spent the majority of his 10 years in the league with the Houston Rockets (five seasons) and the Los Angeles Clippers (four seasons), but after being in Minnesota for one season, he’s now part of a new-look Utah team.

When Beverley was asked about playing for the Jazz earlier this week, here’s what he had to say:

Pat Beverley is hoping that Donovan Mitchell stays with the Jazz instead of being traded

Pat Bev is a fierce competitor and rather than saying that he expects Mitchell to leave, or mentioning that he could be involved in another trade himself this summer, he of course said that he hopes that the guard stays in Utah.

Beverley said that if Mitchell gets traded from the Jazz, he “wants to taste how winning a championship feels.” He obviously wouldn’t be able to get that feeling on a team that traded away both of its best players within a couple of months of one another.

With both Gobert and Mitchell, the Jazz hoped to be able to experience the championship feeling or at least the feeling of a deep playoff run. However, Utah was a first-round exit in three of the five years that Gobert and Mitchell were together.

The Knicks are working on transforming themselves into a consistent playoff team that could be labeled as a contender down the road. Mitchell would certainly help to expedite that process. And hopefully, when that time comes, Beverley will have won his first title. Although he’s never played in New York, you have to respect his energy and dedication.

In the meantime, let’s hope that the Knicks and Jazz can come to an agreement on a trade for Mitchell. Maybe, just maybe, Ainge will lower his sky-high expectations just a bit.
