The New York Knicks and the Utah Jazz have different ideas of what it should take to trade Donovan Mitchell, but the rumors haven’t stopped the guard from enjoying his offseason. He’s been spotted at MSG watching the New York Rangers and has been in Queens watching the Mets at Citi Field.

Mitchell’s from New York, so him spending time in the city is normal. And even if he wasn’t, it’d still be normal. New York City isn’t exactly an obscure place, but because it’s close to where his roots are, a trade to the Knicks would make sense. And on top of that, New York has the most to offer Utah.

So, if Mitchell is going to be traded this offseason, the belief is that it’s going to be to the Knicks. If that were to happen, he’d get to be closer to his family and his favorite baseball team.

Speaking of baseball, Mitchell, an avid Mets fan, gave Aaron Judge a shoutout on Twitter on Sunday during the Yankees’ 6-0 win over the Orioles.

Mitchell may root for the Mets, but he’s a known MLB fan. He tweeted about Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez during the 2022 Home Run Derby at Dodger Stadium last week.

And because Judge hit his 37th home run against Baltimore on Sunday, which leads the league, it’s not exactly unusual that Mitchell tweeted about him. Not only would Mitchell get to be in the same city as his favorite team, as well as MLB’s hottest team, but he’d also have the opportunity to get to be a star in NYC like Judge.

Utah didn’t have the success that it hoped that it would with Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, who was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves a few weeks ago. The guard still has three full years left on his contract, but at the age of 25, the likelihood of him wanting to remain with the Jazz seems to be low, although he hasn’t formally requested a trade.

That’s where the Knicks come in. After landing point guard Jalen Brunson in free agency, the culture has shifted in New York. And if Mitchell has a desire to be part of that, as well as a desire to get to be close to his favorite MLB team along with Judge and the Yankees, that would help to facilitate a trade to the Knicks.

Go ahead and tell Danny Ainge that you want to come home, Spida. There’s some good baseball (and basketball) awaiting you.
