Welcome to another day of waiting to hear the latest update on the New York Knicks and Donovan Mitchell. Over the past week, New York and the Utah Jazz have engaged in trade talks, but Danny Ainge’s price for the three-time All-Star is reportedly currently too high for the Knicks.

And there’s no rush for Leon Rose and the front office to offer too much in return for Mitchell. You don’t jump on the first offer. Many fans are worried about how much it’d cost to get the 25-year-old guard, and it appears as if it’ll be a combination of four or five first-round picks with either two or three players.

We’ve all heard it by now. New York has the most to offer Utah in a deal with eight tradable first-round picks and several young players. It’s up to the two sides to get a deal done. But there’s also been rumors about Mitchell possibly making his way to South Beach to suit up for the Miami Heat.

However, the Heat can’t make an offer that’s comparable to what the Knicks can, which is why a third team would have to be looped in. According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, though, Miami’s more focused on the Kevin Durant trade saga.

Knicks’ Donovan Mitchell competition are reportedly ‘prioritizing’ a possible Kevin Durant deal

The Heat made it to the Eastern Conference Finals this past season, but couldn’t make it past the Boston Celtics. And ever since KD requested a trade on June 30 and it was reported that he’s most interested in Miami and the Phoenix Suns, the Heat would be absurd to not be most interested in Durant’s next move.

Fischer wrote:

"RJ Barrett and Tyler Herro are the two extension-eligible 2019 first-rounders whose futures seem tied to the outcomes of the Durant and Mitchell trade sweepstakes. The Miami Heat remain focused on acquiring one of those aforementioned All-Stars, and multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told B/R that Miami has prioritized pursuing Durant over Mitchell."

New York could use that to its advantage. Also, Mitchell is represented by the CAA, which is where Rose came from. Fans have been waiting for the team president to bring in a big name and Mitchell could soon be joining Jalen Brunson, who’s also represented by the CAA.

The Knicks also have the advantage of calling New York home, just like Mitchell. He said in April that he’d make a decision on his future based on his family, which means that he could likely be more interested in being traded to the Knicks.

If Durant ends up staying with the Brooklyn Nets and New York lands Mitchell because Miami was too preoccupied with trying to put together a deal for KD, then the Knicks should maybe send the Nets a thank you card.
