6: Quentin Grimes

With the Evan Fournier trade chatter, Quentin Grimes could be the Knicks’ starting shooting guard next season. If he isn’t traded to the Jazz, that is.

In the three summer league games that New York’s played in, he’s performed well. And yes, it’s just summer league, but Grimes has dominated on both ends of the floor. As a rookie, he played in 46 games for the Knicks and there’s no reason to believe that his role isn’t going to increase in 2022-23.

And in the replies on Twitter, many users didn’t mention Grimes. His success in Las Vegas likely played a role in that. At the age of 22, he still has a long future in the league ahead of him. As a 3-and-D wing, Grimes holds a lot of value, which is something that Utah’s well aware of.

But let’s be realistic, if Mitchell comes to New York, he’s going to be the starting shooting guard, which would obviously impact Grimes’ playing time. And Grimes has what it takes to be an NBA starter, but with Mitchell being far more established, Knicks fans are going to have to make a sacrifice. If only Mitchell could play defense like Grimes.
