3 burning questions Knicks will answer in free agency
1: Is Jalen Brunson going to sign with the Knicks in free agency?
Ah, this is the one. You may not be for Jalen Brunson signing with the Knicks, or you may be against the contract that New York’s expected to offer him, but you’re definitely wondering if he’s going to end up with his father and the Knicks. Actually, this is one of the most burning questions in the NBA world.
On Tuesday, Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes reported that New York’s expected to offer Brunson a four-year contract “in the vicinity of $110 million.”
Don’t be surprised if the number is higher than that if the guard signs with the Knicks. Brunson’s going to meet with New York, Dallas, and Miami (go figure, Pat Riley) in NYC on Thursday once free agency begins. And here’s who’s making the trip for the Mavericks in their last-ditch effort to persuade Brunson to re-sign:
Nothing is meant to come easy for the Knicks and their fans, but you know that already. But New York has the strongest ties to Brunson, although it was Dallas who drafted him in 2018. His father is an assistant coach for the Knicks, he’s had a relationship with Leon Rose because of his father, and his agent is Rose’s son.
So, if what we all expect to happen goes to plan, the next question that everyone will have will be: Is New York going to get hit with a tampering fine? Ah, the NBA is great.
At least we all made it to the day of. The fun is just beginning, though, but only a few more hours until we start to have some answers.
